Looking for an awesome place in the Ortigas/Pasig area where geeks and pop culture fans – especially K-Pop fans – can enjoy delicious food, great coffee, and their fandoms in peace?
Subspace Coffee House is the brainchild of Thor Balanon and Wilmer Lopez – a spin-off (in true comic book fashion!) of their home and furniture shop, Space Encounters. It’s funny, actually; people kept mistaking Space Encounters for a coffee shop because of its comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
Instead of doing what I would do (kick people in the groin repeatedly, er, I mean, patiently keep correcting them until they get it right), Thor and Wilmer realized they had a winning business idea on their hands. Thus, Subspace Coffee House was born – a melting pot of geekery, brews, and K-Pop things, too!
Upon entering, you are immediately greeted by these wonderful and yummy little things behind the glass. I believe they’re called “desserts” here; where I come from, we call them “I-was-too-busy-gobbling-them-up-to-even-find-out-what-they’re-called.”
I took one look at that thing and immediately thought, “Holy shit, Pyrenian ibex!” And then I felt bad because of this shameless plug.
Bricks and pipes. If I were wearing a red cap and overalls, I would have said something along the lines of “Hey, paizanos! It’s the Subspace Coffee House Super Show!” Thankfully, I wasn’t.
Dat little girl AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The ambiance is nice and each wall and corner is designed differently from the others. Heck, even the chairs per table are different! “Sit where your mood is best reflected,” more or less.
Subspace Coffee House’s menu. I can tell that your eyes will be stuck staring at the right side for a very long time.
On to the coffee and food – I’ll need a bit of assistance from my adorable (and customized!) little helper here. Take it away, little Spider-Munny!
“The Subspace crew are *excellent* latte artists. This is Baymax from Big Hero 6, who happens to be much fatter than me. Haha. Fatso.”
“This is one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind – a very thick slab of bacon on top of a bed of rice.”
“It’s a popular breakfast waffle, filled with bacon, eggs, tomato slices, and happiness. It also sells out really fast!”
“This is mac and cheese. It tastes a bit different from the typical microwave-ready mac and cheese I eat all the time. It has a strong, unique flavor. Waitaminute, why am I evaluating food all of a sudden? I’m just a vinyl toy!”
“This is a double green tea waffle, a.k.a. a brilliant idea.”
“I call this one ‘The Victory of the Human Spider, er, Spirit.’ Also, this Cookie Butter Shake is easily the best cookie butter shake out there, trust me.”
